These success stories show how the combination of Creative and Traditional Coaching Techniques can really work.
Team Coaching
Problem
A high performing team can be the key to a success of any organisation. One client was concerned about that his team was growing in size and becoming less cohesive. He wanted to facilitate the opportunity to bond with the team, but was unsure how to approach this.
Creative Coaching Technique
One of the creative coaching techniques used was based on the familiar format for the Dragon’s Den television show. The team was divided into groups who were asked to develop the concept for an entrepreneurial product that could in some way improve their performance as a team. Each team was then asked to present a sales pitch to a panel to convince them to invest.
The session was an overwhelming success, tackling the problem head on and with good humour. So successful was it, in fact, that the winning product was actually implemented back in the workplace.
Feedback
The team commented that the approach of the team coach, who used a familiar yet creative format to encourage interaction amongst team members, had successfully facilitated team interaction and bonding, and promoted a healthy and friendly, yet competitive, approach towards the achievement of team targets.
Career Coaching
Problem
Oliver was feeling dissatisfied with his job. Although he was well paid, he felt the role was unfulfilling. Ultimately, Oliver wanted to find a more fulfilling role, but did not want to compromise his salary and lifestyle.
Creative Coaching Technique
A coach worked with Oliver to brainstorm key values with a Career Coach, and as a result, we identified that he wanted to be involved with teaching and developing people. One of the creative coaching ideas agreed was for Oliver to volunteer at a local youth scheme. This provided a different environment, outside of work, in which he could use his knowledge to help develop others. Although uncertain at first, Oliver loved the opportunity to contribute effectively in this situation and was able to see how he could have a positive influence on those around him. Ultimately, he has been able to apply this positive and proactive attitude in his work.
Feedback
‘With the support of a Career Coach I was able to identify what my career goals were and how I could achieve them. I have now moved into an organisation that offers business and financial training to small to medium sized enterprises. It is great and I am still volunteering at my local youth scheme. I feel happy that I am using my knowledge to help develop others. But at the same time have not had to give up the quality of life that I and my family have enjoyed’.
Life Coaching
Problem
Jane had rather low self-esteem and was shy when meeting new people. However, she had just relocated to a new area and wanted to make new friends. A coach worked with Jane to apply creative techniques to empower her to achieve these goals.
Creative Coaching Technique
Creative interventions were used by the Life Coaches to increase Jane’s social confidence and enable her to meet new people. Jane enjoys dancing and agreed to go along to a salsa group. Attendance at this group involved dance lessons and the opportunity to dance with other members afterwards in a relaxed setting.
After gradually increasing her involvement in the Salsa class, Jane was able to integrate with the group, becoming more confident and meeting more people.
Feedback
Jane made great progress, and it was amazing to see how, as the lessons went on, she held herself in a different way and talked with more self-confidence.
‘I am really pleased the difference a Life Coach made they provided me with the skills, techniques and opportunities to rebuild my confidence and I have made a whole new group of friends through my salsa class.’
